World Rejoices as Jerry Jones names Cowboys Stadium the new At&T Stadium

7/26/2013

It was recently announced that our fearless leader, Jurrah Jones (of Papa John's commercial fame and reminding us about winning 20 years ago), has struck a deal with fairly unthreatening corporation AT&T for the naming rights to the generic Cowboys Stadium.

Since AT&T cell phone commercials don't really piss me off, I don't really have an opinion on this historic pact. I mean I'm sure AT&T is a heartless and evil corporation like the rest of them, but I just don't know much about them.

How much did AT&T pay for the rights? The company paid between $17 and $19 million for yearly naming rights to Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. Length of the contract is speculated to be over 10 years at this time.

I'm disappointed it wasn't kept Cowboys Stadium but if you have to pick a sponsor, I guess AT&T Stadium doesn't sound so bad.

A Water Main Broke at Arapaho and Hillcrest

7/26/2013

In shockingly mundane local news, a water main broke at the corner of Arapaho and Hillcrest on July 26th. It caused minor traffic backups for North Dallas residents in the area. How do I know? Because I was caught in the traffic. True story.

Best Chinese Food in North Dallas

7/26/2013

My pick for the best cheap Chinese food in North Dallas has to be the greatness of Lee's. This is a family-run business that has been at the Southwest corner of Coit and Campbell near Cindi's for over 20 years. So what's so great about them?

1.  The eggroll - their's is such a step up from the usual, thick and breaded eggroll that most Chinese places serve. You know the one I'm talking about. Lee's is almost more of a pastry - flaky and very lightly breaded. Get at least 3 of them.

2.  The sesame chicken: The be-all, end-all best thing on the menu in my opinion. And that's not knocking the menu, I've never had anything bad here. The sesame chicken is just that good.

3. The wonton soup: They have a damn good one, there's no doubt. Other go-to menu items include the moo goo gai pan (lighter), the lo mein, the kung pow shrimp and the beef and broccoli.

Basically, if you need cheap Chinese delivery or take-out, check them out. I've never had a bad meal there.

Carmine's Pizza Business Spotlight

7/25/2013

Carmine's Pizza on Spring Valley road near the N. Dallas Tollway has been an institution for as long as I can remember. I recently went to this delicious eatery and did some damage with a slice of pepperoni and a slice of supreme. Carmine's has a variety of lunch specials and the meal ran me about $8 with a drink. Which is fine, because this is damn good, thin crust, New-York style pizza.

The ambiance is bare but homey. Almost like stepping into a time machine, but not in a bad way. It's in a small strip center and a favorite of many office workers in the area. Worth checking out if you want some good pizza in North Dallas.
